Passive vs Interactive Engagment

Interesting article over at Interactive Marketing Trends about the latest Heineken campaign and what it suggest about advertising engagment. Think its pretty spot on, after all movies are passive but totally engaging (well, most some of them). See Avatar depression for an extreame illustration of that!

Digital is still very much the new, exciting, shiney toy for many marketeers. But sometime this means it can blind you from more traditional channels that might better solve the communications problem.

The funny thing is that its indistinguishable from 99% of commercial R&B/Rap out there. Even comments on youtube suggest that some people seem to be missing the point of it.

Its obviously done its job in terms of getting people talking about it! The makers must have been salivating when they see comments like this:
"Awesome. This is truly awesome. I don't care if it's an ad, I'm showing it to everyone."
